Nightmare: What numbers Neymar has delivered in his two games in Ligue 1

Whatever else happens next in the transfer market, Brazilian star Neymar's move from Barcelona to Paris was undoubtedly the biggest move of the summer of 2017. It also made him the first player in international football to have a transfer fee (significantly) in excess of £100 million, a record previously held by Manchester United star Paul Pogba, who returned to the Red Devils from Juventus for a fee of £89 million.

Perhaps there were concerns about the future direction of the international soccer transfer market when Pogba completed his move, but no one expected the world soccer record transfer fee to more than double in just one year. But Neymar has also caught everyone's eye with his performances in two Ligue 1 games since arriving in Paris, and with Squawka writer Mohamed Moallim listing Neymar's standout Ligue 1 stats, we can also visualize just how terrifying the Brazilian's form has been.

Whatever Neymar's true worth, at least everyone knows that taking him away from the Camp Nou will inevitably come at a very high price. His €222m (£199m) default fee seemed "out of reach" enough, so you can imagine people's surprise when it did happen.

But in the end, Neymar joined Paris Saint-Germain, who have taken a huge step towards becoming one of the most dominant teams in international football. Despite having a top striking partnership in Barcelona with the likes of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Neymar ultimately refused to stay on at the Camp Nou.

But a week or a year is a long enough time in soccer, and perhaps something happened during that time that we don't even know about that ultimately made Neymar make up his mind to say goodbye to Barcelona.

Some see it as a move by the Brazilian to make a run at the Ballon d'Or. In their view, if the Brazilian had stayed at Barcelona, he might never have been able to get his hands on the Ballon d'Or with Messi overshadowing him.

At least from one perspective, the transfer is good for both Paris Saint-Germain and Neymar himself. In addition to support on the pitch, Paris can give Neymar the attention he wants. And as the third best player in soccer today below Melo, Neymar's arrival also enhances Greater Paris' chances of winning the Champions League.

After joining Paris, Neymar missed the league opener against Amiens. But Neymar delivered dominant performances against Gambon on his debut and against Toulouse on Aug. 21, both games.

Although the league has only just begun, Neymar has already become a nightmare for the rest of Ligue 1. As many expected, Neymar has already begun to dominate Ligue 1.

Crossing master

Footwork agility has always been Neymar's trademark, and judging by his performances in his first two games in Ligue 1, he has already shown his outstanding ability in crossing.

Facing Gambon on his debut, Neymar*** completed 11 one-on-ones, a statistic that is more than any player in Ligue 1 in the 2016-2017 season. It also equaled his own previous record, which came in La Liga, between Barcelona and Espanyol, a match in which the Brazilian also finished 11 one-on-ones.

And in the subsequent home game against Toulouse, Neymar*** finished with 14 crosses, a figure that equaled the record set by Ousmane Dembele in February 2016 against Caen. Keep in mind that 14 crosses are the most in a single game in Ligue 1 over the past 10 seasons.

What's even more interesting is that Barcelona also viewed Ousmane Dembele as the Brazilian's replacement after Neymar's departure from the club.

So in two games in Ligue 1, Neymar has succeeded on 25 of his 31 crosses, a success rate of 81 percent.

Look at it another way and you'll see how scary this statistic is for Neymar. The second highest number of crosses in the Paris squad is Verratti, but the Italian has only completed four, compared to just three for Di Maria, Pastore and Alves. And Fekir, who is second in Ligue 1 as a whole in terms of crosses, has just 14.

One thing that must also be pointed out, of course, is that Neymar has played fewer minutes than any of those aforementioned players.

The goals simply won't stop

After getting Neymar, Paris have also put in a different performance against the likes of Gambon and Toulouse. Paris did not score against Toulouse in the league in the 2016-2017 season, and struggled to find a way to break through against their opponents' tight defense, but after Neymar joined the club, they poured six goals into their opponents.

Neymar's desire to score is extremely strong, which is reflected in the data: in the first two games he participated in, Neymar has completed 12 shots on goal. That figure is second only to Paris' top scorer for the 2016-2017 season, Cavani (14), and Monaco striker Radamel Falcao (13).

The previously mentioned Ousmane Dembele also has great potential in this area. The 20-year-old has **** played two full seasons so far, and while playing for Rennes, the Frenchman had scored 12 goals in a single season.

Since joining Barcelona, Neymar has averaged 17 goals per season. And after playing two games in Paris, Neymar's stats are picking up a goal every 60 minutes.

In comparison, Neymar's most efficient scoring period at Barcelona was the 2014-2015 season, the one in which the club won its second treble, when he scored a goal every 117 minutes in the league.

Creativity is constant

Neymar joined Barca in 2013 at the age of 21 and has since grown into a team player who is creating chances for his teammates, especially Messi and Suarez, in a constant stream.

Neymar has also brought that selflessness to Paris Saint-Germain. In two games, Neymar*** created 14 chances for Paris, a league-leading figure and one more than Lille's Benzia, who came second. And three of those chances ended up being converted into goals, putting Neymar tied with Moutinho and Camano at the top of the league's assists list.

If such numbers continue throughout the season, there will be no doubt about breaking the 2015-2016 tally of 24 goals and 18 assists. There's certainly no reason why Neymar can't do it, at least as of now.

If you think the article is too long, we've also listed seven standout stats from Neymar's first two games in Ligue 1 to give you a better sense of his awesomeness:

1. Against Gambon, Neymar finished with 11 crosses, a statistic that is more than any player in Ligue 1 had in a single game last season.

2. Against Toulouse, Neymar added 14 crosses, which tied Ousmane Dembele's record for the most in a single game in Ligue 1 over the past 10 seasons.

3. Neymar*** has completed 25 crosses so far, tops in Ligue 1.

4. In Ligue 1 in the 2017-2018 season, Neymar*** has 12 shots on target, a statistic that ranks third in Ligue 1.

5, from landing in Europe to join Barcelona to now, this season Neymar average minutes used per goal is the least.

6, so far, Neymar in Ligue 1 **** create 14 chances, ranking first in the league.

7, Neymar has dished out 3 assists in 2 games, which puts him tied with two others at the top of the Ligue 1 assist list.
