Yunyan District is located in the northern part of the north-south "boat-shaped basin" of Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, with a land area of 93.57 square kilometers, and is the political, economic, cultural, scientific and technological and educational center of Guizhou Province, as well as one of the central city districts of Guiyang. The district has 26 communities, 15 streets and 1 township, with a total population of about 996,400 (December 2018), and is a multi-ethnic settlement area with mainly Han Chinese, as well as Miao, Buyi, Hui and Shui ethnic groups. It has been awarded the honorary title of "The Most Beautiful China - Eco-tourism - Cultural Tourism Destination" in 2014, the Top 100 National Comprehensive Strength Districts in 2017, the Top 100 Districts in China in 2018, the Top 100 Districts with Investment Potential in 2018, the Top 100 Districts of Science and Technology Innovation and the Top 100 Districts of Green Development in China.
Economy continues to lead. Yunyan gives full play to its location advantages, and focuses on building a new industrial system led by big data, led by the financial industry, and dominated by modern service industry, and its economic strength has been rapidly developed.In 2018, Yunyan District realized an annual GDP of 83 billion yuan, an increase of 10.5%, and the total amount continues to be the first in the province.
The territory has a pleasant climate. Yunyan District has a subtropical humid monsoon climate. Due to the lower latitude, not far from the ocean, high altitude, so no severe cold in winter, no summer heat, mild climate, abundant rainfall; four distinct seasons, light, heat, water in the same season; rich heat resources. The average annual temperature is 15.3℃; the average multi-year cumulative temperature is 5589℃, and the frost-free period is 271 days. The average annual precipitation is 1196.7 millimeters. The average annual relative humidity is 77%. Average annual sunshine hours 1354 hours.
Tourism resources are abundant. As of 2011, Yunyan District **** has 69 cultural relics protection units. There are 69 cultural relics protection units in Yunyan District ****. The famous places in the district include Qianling Park, which is the main part of Qianling Mountain, the "first mountain in Qiannan", and Hongfu Temple, which was built during the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, and is the first large Buddhist jungle in Guizhou. In the park, there is Hongfu Temple, which is the largest Buddhist jungle in Guizhou. There are also the Yangyin Ancestral Temple built in the 19th year of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty (1841), Wenchang Pavilion built in the 37th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1609), and the Sacred Springs built during the Yongle reign of the Ming Dynasty (1403), among other monuments in the park.
On Nov. 25, 2020, the Ministry of Water Resources announced the list of the third batch of counties (districts) that have reached the standard of building a water-saving society, and Yunyan District was on the list.
On October 2019, Yunyan District was selected as one of the top 100 districts in the country in terms of comprehensive strength in 2019, ranking 95th.
October 2019, Yunyan District was selected as one of the 2019 National Top 100 Districts in Science and Technology Innovation, ranking 91st.
On September 12, 2018, Sadie Consultant released the 2018 ranking of China's top 100 districts, and Yunyan District was ranked 95th.
On February 16, 2016, Yunyan District was on the list of 2015 National Basic Balanced Counties (Cities and Districts) for Compulsory Education Development.
