School Song:
School Song "Zhejiang University School Song" was originally named "Great Not From Much", which was composed by Mr. Ma Yifu, a national scholar, and Professor Ying Shangneng, a professor of the National Central Conservatory of Music. Since its establishment, there have been many objections to the school song, focusing on the literary lyrics and using a lot of canonical references, which is inconvenient for students to understand. However, Zhu Kezhen, the principal of the school, thought that the lyrics were not only difficult to understand, but also profound in meaning, and so the song has been used ever since.
School motto:
Origin: In 1938, President Zhu Kezhen presided over a meeting of the university administration to formalize the motto of ZJU: "Seek Right". The word "Seek Yes" is taken from Wang Yangming's sentence "A gentleman's study is to seek what is right", which is the spirit of the university inherited from the predecessor of ZJU, the "Seek Yes Academy", to this day.
And "Seeking truth" is the same as the English word "Truth", which means "truth", and it is the purpose of studying in a university, so it is very appropriate to be the motto of the university. The motto of the university was "Seeking Truth", which was adopted by Zhu Kezhen, the president of the university, in the hope that the students of Zhejiang University would carry on the school's tradition and would not forget the purpose of their studies.
Changes: In 1988, in view of the fact that "seeking truth" is often interpreted as "seeking reality", President Lu Yongxiang added "innovation" to the original motto. The new motto of Zhejiang University was emphasized as "innovation".
