What does Eason Chan's "Pompous" mean?
The origin of the song: "Pompous" was originally called "Depression" and was written by composer C.Y. Kong on April 1, 2003 in London after hearing the news of his friend's brother Leslie Cheung's death, to express his shocked grief and disbelief when he heard the news. We all know that CY had a great influence on his brother's comeback music, and the two of them have worked together many times, the combination of CY+Lin Xi+Brother is regarded as a classic, and CY's songs are very much in line with his brother's style in his later years, and the two of them are very good friends in life. CY wrote the song "Depression" when he heard the news of his brother's death. Eason later picked up the song for his album, but Wyman's lyrics (describing a small, unappreciated man who attracts attention through exaggerated gestures and language) were very different from CY's original intention. But then, because of the time that had passed since his brother's death, CY didn't want to rehash old memories and Eason felt that Wyman's lyrics were a good fit for him, and so the song "Depression" became the song we later heard as "Pompous".
