The China Earthquake Network (CEN) released a message saying that an earthquake of about 6.5 magnitude occurred near Jiuzhaigou County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, at 21:19 on Aug. 08 (33.20 degrees north latitude, 103.88 degrees east longitude), with the final result subject to the official speed report.

Subsequently, the China Earthquake Network officially determined that a magnitude 7.0 earthquake occurred at 21:19 on August 08 in Jiuzhaigou County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province (latitude 33.20 degrees north, longitude 103.82 degrees east) at a depth of 20 kilometers. The epicenter was 39 kilometers from Jiuzhaigou County, 66 kilometers from Songpan County, 83 kilometers from Zhouqu County, 85 kilometers from Wen County, 90 kilometers from Ruoergai County, 105 kilometers from Longnan City and 285 kilometers from Chengdu City.
