Haikou is located at latitude 19°32′-
20°05′ north and longitude 110°10′-
110°41′ east. Located in the northern part of Hainan Island, it is bordered by the Qiongzhou Strait in the north and Hai'an Town in Guangdong Province across 18 nautical miles; in the east, it is adjacent to Wenchang City; in the south, it is bordered by Wenchang City and Ding'an County

and in the west, it is adjacent to Chengmai County. Haikou City is 60.6 kilometers apart at both ends, starting from the old village of Roughly Po Town in the east and dialing the south village of Xixiu Town in the west; and starting from the village of Wuche Village of Dapo Town in the south and the sea in the north, which is 62.5 kilometers apart at both ends. The city's land area is 2304.84 square kilometers.
Topography
Haikou is slightly long and heart-shaped, with gentle terrain. The Nandu River, the longest river on Hainan Island, passes through the center of Haikou City. The eastern part of the Nandu River slopes slightly from south to north, and the western part of the Nandu River slopes from north to south; the northwestern and southeastern parts are higher, the central part of the Nandu River is low and flat along the coast, and the northern part of the city is mostly a small coastal plain. The majority of the city is terraces and plains with an elevation of less than 100 meters, except for 38 higher hills such as Ma'anling (222.2 meters above sea level) in Shishan Township, Laozhou Ridge (199.9 meters) in Laozhou Township, Risan Ridge (171 meters) in Koshi Township, and Leihu Ridge (168.3 meters) in Yongxing Township. Ma'anling is the highest point in the city. The surface is mainly Quaternary basal volcanic rocks and loose sediments of the fourth system, which are distributed over a large area, with coastal terrace landforms dominating in the coastal area and typical volcanic landforms dominating in the western part of the city. The city's geomorphology is basically divided into the northern coastal plain area, the central river terrace area, the eastern and southern platform area, the western lava platform area.
