Hunan University currently has two campuses, North and South. The South Campus is located at No. 2, Lushan South Road, Yuelu District, Changsha, Hunan Province; and the North Campus is located at No. 109, Shijiachong Road, Yuelu District, Changsha, Hunan Province.

Hunan University of Science and Technology
Hunan University was founded in 976 A.D. Yuelu Academy, through the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties, always maintaining the continuity of cultural education and teaching.
Hunan University was reorganized into Hunan Higher Education College in 1903, named Hunan University in 1926, and became one of the 16 national universities of the Ministry of Education of the National Government in 1937.
After the founding of the People's Republic of China, the educator Li Da, a representative of the First Congress of the People's Republic of China, was appointed as the first president of Hunan University, and the name of the university was inscribed in the handwriting of Mao Zedong.
Hunan University was merged with the Hunan University of Finance and Economics to form the new Hunan University in 2000.

The university has a Science and Technology Achievement Transformation Center (Intellectual Property Center), and operates and manages the National Supercomputing (Changsha) Center, which is the third national supercomputing center, and provides high-performance computing, cloud computing, and big data processing services for hundreds of user units, including colleges and universities, scientific research institutes, governments, and enterprises and institutions.

The university campus covers an area of 2,390,776,000 square meters, with a building area of 1,446,350 square meters.
As of the end of 2019, the university has a collection of 7,421,400 books and 154 Chinese and foreign language databases. The whole network supports the next-generation Internet IPV6, and the 10,000-megabit backbone terrestrial wired and wireless networks have covered all the teaching buildings, office buildings and student apartments, realizing multi-channel informatized teaching, management and services by combining with mobile technology.
