The predecessor of the school is Yishan Normal School of Guangxi Province which was founded in 1951, and it has gone through the stages of operation such as Guangxi Yishan Prefecture Normal School, Liuzhou Teacher's College and Yishan Normal School of Guangxi Hechi Area, etc. In December 1978, the State Council approved the establishment of Hechi Normal College on the basis of Yishan Normal School, and the Ministry of Education approved the renaming of the school in 1994 as "Hechi Normal College".
In May 1979, the Yishan Normal School (later renamed Yizhou National Normal School) was reopened with the approval of the Hechi Prefecture Committee of the C***. In April 2003, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the Hechi College on the basis of the Hechi Normal Higher and Specialized School, and in July 2003, the People's Government of the Autonomous Region approved the establishment of the Hechi College on the basis of the merger of the Hechi Normal Higher and Specialized School and the Yizhou National Teacher's School
In December 2011, the school passed the qualified assessment of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. 2013, the school was approved as the project construction unit of new master's degree-granting units in Guangxi. 2016 January, the school was approved to become a pilot university for the overall transformation and development at the level of the autonomous region. 2019 December, the school passed the undergraduate teaching audit and assessment. At present, the school has become a multidisciplinary local undergraduate college with a certain scale and initial characteristics.
