What does a natural disaster risk census taker do?

It is to assess the risk as exemplified by the National Comprehensive Natural Disaster Risk Census.

Through conducting the census, it maps out the national natural disaster risk hazards, identifies the disaster-resistant capacity of key areas, and objectively recognizes the comprehensive risk level of natural disasters across the country and in each region, providing authoritative disaster risk information and scientific decision-making basis for the people's governments at the central and local levels to effectively carry out natural disaster prevention and control, and to effectively safeguard the sustainable development of the economy and society.

Work content:

In the process of the survey, new technologies such as remote sensing, geographic information systems, big data, cloud computing and so on will be fully applied. For example, high-resolution remote sensing images will be utilized to assist in various types of surveys and assessments.

Using the spatial display and management functions of the geographic information system (GIS), it will carry out the unified management, analysis and evaluation of various types of spatial information and mapping; and it will build a cloud computing environment, construct a risk census big data management and processing system, and realize real-time on-line processing of the national survey and evaluation work.
