Originally home to the Great Lakes, the Zanga Swamp is an ecological zone that is not exactly rich and bountiful, but is nonetheless teeming with life. Many exotic creatures inhabited Zanga Swamp, which was surrounded by huge forests of luminescent mushrooms on the shores of the beautiful lakes, and in contrast to the neighboring Hellfire Peninsula, Zanga Swamp remained mostly untouched until the arrival of Naga.

When the Naga entered the region, they began to build large pumping facilities, and from that moment on, the water levels of the various lakes began to drop, and all of the water that was pumped out was poured into the Lake of Vipers, the habitat of the Naga forces, where the Discordian Caverns are located.
