Shandong University of Science and Technology originated in 1951 in Zibo Hongshan set up in Shandong Mining District No. 2 Coal Mining Vocational School and the establishment of the Jinan Coal Mining School in 1956, the two schools were developed for the Huainan Institute of Mining and Shandong College of Coal Mining, respectively. 1963, Huainan Institute of Mining was withdrawn and merged into the Shandong College of Coal Mining.
