The sources of big data are transactional data, human data, and machine and sensor data.
Transactional data includes POS data, credit card swipe data, and so on; human data, which includes emails, documents, images, and data streams generated through tweets, blogs, tweets, and so on; and machine and sensor data, such as data from sensors, gauges, and other facilities.
Big data, or huge data, refers to information that is so large that it cannot be captured, managed, processed, and organized in a reasonable amount of time by mainstream software tools for the purpose of helping businesses make more positive decisions. Big Data requires special technologies to effectively handle large volumes of data that are tolerant of elapsed time. Technologies applicable to Big Data include massively parallel processing (MPP) databases, data mining, distributed file systems, distributed databases, cloud computing platforms, the Internet, and scalable storage systems.
