What is the origin of the name "Longhai Line"? Why is the railway trunk line from Lianyungang, Jiangsu Province to Lanzhou, Gansu Province called "Longhai Line"? Isn't this a local abbreviation?
Why is it called Longhai Railway? It's a long story. After Qin Shihuang unified China, the whole country was divided into 36 counties. Now the southeast of Gansu Province is Beidi County and Longxi County among the 36 counties. It was not until the Yuan Dynasty established Gansu as a book province that a name of Gansu appeared. Therefore, Gansu was called Chang for short in the old society. Longhai refers to Haizhou, which is now a district of Lianyungang. However, Lianyungang did not exist before 196 1 year, when it was called Xinhai Liancheng. It was named after Xinpu, Haizhou and Li Anyun, and originally belonged to Shandong Province. The railway was built in sections from east to west, from Haizhou in the east to Lanzhou in the west, and 1953 ran through the whole line. At that time, it was logical to name it Longhai Railway.
