The journalism and media program, which originated in 1980, the world's first specialized journalism and communication department was the Department of Journalism at the University of Missouri. It mostly combines a broad liberal arts education with special courses in specialized areas such as advertising, broadcasting, film and television, newspapers, magazines, and public **** relations, among others.
