Mandarin was finally designated as Beijing dialect, while Cantonese lost to Beijing dialect by one vote, but failed to become the national language. With the prestige of Sun Yat-sen, it finally turned the tide, and Cantonese lost its supreme position of "unifying the world". Otherwise, all China people will speak Cantonese, which has been spoken for almost a hundred years now, and naturally becomes the "mother tongue" of compatriots in the north and south.
