Turtles mainly inhabit rivers, lakes, reservoirs, ponds and other waters. During the daytime, it is mostly trapped in the water. When the summer heat, they will be in groups to find shade. Turtles begin to mature at 5 years of age under natural conditions and mature well at 7 years of age. From the weight of the general male turtle 150 grams, female turtles 250 grams sex began to mature. Every year, the Yangtze River Basin generally start spawning at the end of April to the end of August, May-July for the peak spawning season, female turtles can be spawned 3-4 times a year, each time 10-25 days apart, each time the spawning of 5-8 eggs, the water temperature, the air temperature of 27-30 ℃ is the best, more than 35 ℃, it will stop spawning.

The process of egg laying in turtles can be divided into four stages: the first stage of choosing a burrow. Crawling around to choose the soil is loose in favor of preventing enemy pests next to the roots of trees or in the weeds. The moisture content of the soil is about 5-20%.

The second stage of digging holes. The caliber of the egg hole is about 3-4 cm, the body of the hole is slightly inclined, and the depth is about 8-9 cm. Third stage spawning. Lay the eggs in the hole, and when the soil is covered with the egg hole after laying, it is then pressed hard with the whole back half of the body's ventral plate.
