The advantages and disadvantages of plastic compared with other materials:
1. Advantages
1) Light weight, the specific gravity of plastic is between 0.83 and 2.2 g/cm3, among which poly4-methylpentene is the lightest, polytetrafluoroethylene is the heaviest, foam plastic is between 0.01 and 0.5 g/cm3, and steel is 7.8 g/cm3 , aluminum is 2.8 g/cm3, copper is 8.7 g/cm3, glass is 2.5 g/cm3, and clay is 1.7 g/cm3.
2) Good electrical insulation
3) Resistant to chemical corrosion
4) Good light transmission and protection, glass light transmittance is 80%, organic Glass is 92%. The glass is opaque when the thickness reaches 20cm. PMMA is still clear and transparent when the thickness reaches 1m. Others such as PC, PET, PS, etc. have light transmittances of more than 80%;
5) Less Shock and sound attenuation
6) Economical
2. Disadvantages
1) Not heat-resistant, the use temperature of general plastics is not high, such as PVC does not exceed 80℃ , PET ≤ 120 ℃, PET ≤ 130 ℃, PTFE ≤ 250 ℃;
2) Easy to deform: plastic expansion coefficient is large, temperature deformation is large, and long-term load bearing will cause creep, such as plastic ropes for drying clothes. It will stretch over time.
3) Easy to age
4) Not easy to decompose and pollute the environment
