This is a classic among classics, a masterpiece of the silent era that is still emulated today; it is also the first monument in the history of sci-fi cinema, and its influence can be seen everywhere in later generations of sci-fi, whether it be the Mad Frankenstein of the 1930s, or the imaginings of future urban landscapes in Blade Runner, Brazil, The Fifth Element, Star Wars, and C-Menace. Whether it's the mad Frankenstein of the 1930s, or the imagery of future cityscapes in Blade Runner, Brazil, The Fifth Element, Star Wars, the C-3PO imagery, Luke Skywalker's prosthetic hand and the female general's prosthetic hand in The Valley of the Winds, or the subterranean city and the number 1138 itself in Lucas's TH1138, there's a Metropolis in all of it. Even Madonna and "Queen" rock music video also quotes "Metropolis". 2002, the Japanese release of Tezuka/Otomo/Rintaro version of "Metropolis", but also several generations of animation masters of the cross-century remote tribute to Fritz Lang.
