In April 2005, Sanya College of Hainan University was officially established, and in March 2012, with the consent of the Ministry of Education, Sanya College of Hainan University was converted and renamed as Sanya College.
As of March 2019, the school campus covers an area of 3,000 acres, with a total building area of nearly 500,000 square meters; it has 18 second-level colleges and offers 74 undergraduate majors (including directions), with more than 1,000 faculty members and 20,000 students.

In March 2004, Hainan University and Hainan Lok Pen Dong Investment Company Limited signed an agreement, the two sides cooperate *** with the preparation of Hainan University Sanya College.
In April 2005, Hainan University Sanya College was established; in the same year, the school was listed as a government accountability project.
In 2007, the school's computer application basic experimental teaching demonstration center was named excellent laboratory by the Hainan Provincial Department of Education.
In 2009, Sanya College Electronic Technology Laboratory Practice and Teaching Center, Sanya College Economic Management Laboratory Practice and Teaching Center, Computer Application Basic Laboratory Teaching Demonstration Center was named "Hainan Province Electronic Technology Laboratory Teaching Demonstration Center".
In 2010, the Marine Research Institute of Sanya College was established; in January of the same year, the school canceled the establishment of the Economics and Management Branch, and formed the Finance and Economics Branch from the three finance and economics majors of International Economics and Trade, Accounting, and Financial Management, and the Management Branch from the other four majors.
In November 2011, the Research Base of Island Culture and Social Development of Hainan Province was established.
In March 2012, Sanya College of Hainan University was transformed into Sanya College.
In July 2013, the school's Paperless Animation Laboratory, 3G Mobile Communication Innovation Experiment Center, and Broadcasting and Hosting Art Laboratory were approved as key laboratories in Sanya; in August of the same year, the Institute of Marxist Political Philosophy was established .
In January 2014, the school's International Tourism College was formally renamed as International Hotel Management College; in the same year, the school passed the Ministry of Education's undergraduate teaching work qualification assessment. [3] [10]
In April 2016, the People's Government of Hainan Province and the People's Government of Sanya Municipality formally signed a contract*** to build Sanya College; [11] In August of the same year, the school's Li Culture Research and Development Base was officially opened. [12]
In October 2018, Sanya College and Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Design cooperated *** to build the "International Design College" and "Innovative Design Research Institute" was unveiled in Sanya College. [13]
