The predecessor of the College of Electronics and Information Technology, the Department of Telecommunications Engineering, was founded in 1952 as one of the six engineering colleges in the country that recruited electronics majors; in 1956, the Department was mainly used to form the Chengdu Institute of Telecommunications Engineering (now the University of Electronic Science and Technology), and most of the students and teachers were transferred to Chengdu; in 1958, the South China College of Technology was reorganized; in 1960, the Department of Telecommunications Engineering was reorganized; in 1960, the University of Electronic Science and Technology was reorganized. In 1958, South China University of Technology re-organized the Department of Telecommunication Engineering; in 1960, it was changed to the Department of Radio. The founders of the college are China's famous electronics experts, educators, Professor Feng Bingquan (participated in the "two bombs and one star" project, and Tsinghua Professor Meng Zhaoying, known as the electronics industry, "South Feng and North Meng"), as well as Prof. Xu Bingzheng (the former vice president of the South China University of Technology) and Lin Weigan Academician (the first department head).
