Catering industry concentration declines

With the catering industry moving towards industrialization and scaling, the top 100 catering enterprises are also growing. According to data from the China Cuisine Association, in 2018, the total operating revenue of the top 100 catering enterprises was 241.07 billion yuan, an increase of 12.2% year-on-year (for the current subject enterprise revenue year-on-year), and the growth rate increased by 1 percentage point compared to the previous year. Entering the list of the top three companies are: Yum China Holdings Limited, Golden Arches Limited and Hai Di Lao International Holdings Limited.

Because of the phenomenon of "falling behind" in some enterprises in 2018, the overall scale of the revenue of the top 100 food and beverage enterprises in 2018 was not as large as the revenue of the top 100 food and beverage enterprises in 2017.

From the point of view of industry concentration, from 2012 to 2018, China's catering industry concentration as a whole showed a downward trend, in 2018, China's top 100 catering enterprises revenue accounted for 5.6% of the overall revenue scale of the industry, a decline of 1.6 percentage points from 2017. The catering industry has a low degree of industry concentration.

Chinese fast food and formal food account for the main market, and the boundary between the two is gradually fading

--Chinese fast food and formal food outlets dominate

According to Tatsumi China Catering Big Data Research Center data, the number of domestic food and beverage outlets rose from 3.99 million to 6.57 million from 2014-2018, maintaining a compound annual growth rate of 13.3%.

From the point of view of store types, Chinese food and beverage stores still occupy absolute dominance, with the number of Chinese fast food and Chinese formal food accounting for 45.4% and 32.8% respectively.

--The boundary between formal and fast food is gradually blurred

The current types of food and beverage are mainly categorized into two types, the first is formal food and the second is fast food. Careful friends may have found that today's formal and fast food in the middle of the line is increasingly blurred, the formal restaurant began to do a fast food.
