Xuzhou Museum was founded in 1960, is located in Xuzhou City, south of the beautiful scenery of the northern foothills of Yunlong Mountain. The original site for the Qing Emperor Qianlong's 1757 southern tour of the former site of the Palace.

In 1996, the Xuzhou Municipal People's Government decided to expand the museum in the original site, in May 1999 that was completed and opened. A Western Han Dynasty witch hazel jade coat, more than 2,100 years old, was restored at the Xuzhou Museum. After more than 10 months of research and careful splicing, archaeologists have preliminarily completed the classification and localization of jade pieces such as the head, upper garment, lower garment, hands and feet of the jade coat.

The golden wisp jade coat, which was discovered in 1995 in the tomb of Liu Wu, the king of Chu in the Western Han Dynasty, on Lion Mountain in Xuzhou, is made of more than 4,000 pieces of fine Hetian jade. The State Administration of Cultural Heritage said the golden strand of jade coat is the best one found in China so far.

In March 2001, the archaeologists of Xuzhou Museum started the restoration of this Golden Witch Hazel Jade Coat based on the historical data of the jade coat, research materials and past experience in restoring jade coats of the Han Dynasty. The length of the restored jade coat was determined to be 1.75 meters.
