Nanjing Agricultural University is a national key university directly under the Ministry of Education of China and co-founded with Jiangsu Province. It is a national "double-first-class" construction university and a "2 1 1 project" construction university. According to the national list of 985 and 2 1 1 universities, Nanjing Agricultural University is a 21/university, but it is not a 985 university. Project 985 and Project 2 1 1 were started by the government of China in the late 1960s and early 20th century, aiming at building a number of world-class universities and disciplines. 985 engineering colleges are all 2 1 1 engineering colleges, but 21/engineering colleges are not necessarily 985 colleges, so 2 1 1 and 985 are included.
