Three major urban agglomerations lead the golden waterway
The Yangtze River Economic Belt, a new strategy covering 11 provinces (municipalities), accounts for more than 40 percent of the country's total economic output, 20 percent of the country's land area, carries a population of 600 million people, and has an economic volume of nearly 24 trillion yuan.
Wu Chuanqing, director of Wuhan University's Regional Economic Research Center, said the Yangtze River Economic Belt is the place where industrialization and urbanization are most concentrated, such as China's urban population of more than 5 million cities in 12 cities, while the Yangtze River Basin has five. The Yangtze River Economic Belt in the country's main functional area planning, key development zones on the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration, Wuhan urban agglomeration, Jianghuai urban agglomeration, Dianzhong region and other key industrialization and urbanization of the region.
The Yangtze River Delta, the city cluster in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, and the Chengdu-Chongqing Economic Zone are the three major engines of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.
Previously, there has been news that the future city clusters of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and Chengdu-Chongqing are expected to rise to national-level city clusters, and together with the existing three major national-level city clusters of the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta, and Bohai Rim, the number of national-level city clusters in the future will reach five.
According to the State Council's Guiding Opinions on Relying on the Golden Waterway to Promote the Development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt, released on the 25th, the Yangtze River Delta will create a world-class city cluster with international competitiveness in the future; give full play to the leading role of Shanghai's international metropolis, and speed up the construction of the international financial, shipping, and trade centers; enhance the internationalization of the metropolitan areas of Nanjing, Hangzhou, and Hefei; and push forward the modernization of the southern Suzhou Demonstration Zone, Zhejiang Zhoushan Islands New Area, Zhejiang Ocean Economy Development Demonstration Zone, Anhui River Industrial Transfer Demonstration Zone, South Anhui International Cultural Tourism Demonstration Zone construction and Tongzhou Bay river and sea linkage development.
In the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, through the enhancement of the functions of the central cities of Wuhan, Changsha and Nanchang, it promotes the complementary resource advantages, industrial division of labor and urban interaction and cooperation among the three major city clusters.
In the upper reaches, the Opinions propose to enhance the functions and internationalization level of the central cities of Chongqing and Chengdu, and play a dual-engine driving and supporting role.
Besides the above three major engines, there are two sub-level engines. The Opinion proposes to promote the development of regional city clusters in Qianzhong and Dianzhong. Enhance Guiyang's industrial support and factor agglomeration capacity, focus on the construction of the Zunyi-Guiyang-Anshun spindle belt, promote the Guian New Area to become an inland open economy demonstration zone, an important deep processing of energy resources, characteristics of the light industry and national culture and tourism bases, and promote the construction of the big data application service base, to build a new economic growth pole in the western region and the ecological civilization construction pioneer area.
On the central Yunnan economic zone, the "Opinions" put forward to enhance the function of Kunming as a central city open to Southeast Asia and South Asia, focusing on the construction of Qujing - Kunming - Chuxiong, Yuxi - Kunming - Wuding development axis, to promote the development of industrial clusters in central Yunnan, and the construction of Characteristic resources deep processing base and cultural tourism base, to create an important bridgehead for opening up to the southwest of the core area and the plateau ecological livable city cluster.
