Steven Gerrard, born May 30, 1980 in Whiston, Merseyside, England, is an English footballer and coach, playing as a midfielder on the pitch, former captain of Liverpool Football Club and the England national team, and current manager of Rangers Football Club in the Scottish Premier League.
In 1998, Gerrard was promoted to Liverpool's first team as an outstanding youth player, and in 2001, Gerrard helped Liverpool win five cups, namely the English League Cup, English FA Cup, European Union Cup, UEFA Super Cup and English Charity Shield.
Early years
Steven Gerrard grew up in Haydon, Merseyside, Liverpool, and attended Bishop John's Catholic School in the West Derby area of Liverpool as a child. Gerrard was spotted by Liverpool scouts as a youngster after playing for his birthplace team, Weston Youth. At the age of nine, Gerrard joined Liverpool's youth academy and went on to try out for a number of clubs, including Manchester United at the age of 14.
At the age of 15, his talent was again recognized by Liverpool and he was recruited back into the Liverpool training camp. on November 5, 1997, Gerrard signed his first professional contract with Liverpool Football Club.
