Squid and cuttlefish can be farmed in captivity.
The technology of breeding cuttlefish is an international challenge. It is only since 2004 that the artificial culture of cuttlefish has been successful in Ningbo, China. The farming technology and scale still need to be improved.
Some of the artificially farmed squid can grow very large, and their meat is fat and tasty.
Plastic bottle culture:
The use of wild young octopus, placed in the 500ml discarded beverage bottles with fine holes, seal the bottle mouth, with a rope string hanging, placed in the sea natural hanging culture, the appropriate interval plus float, the effect is better. The method is simple, but the growth rate of octopus is slow, suitable for plankton rich sea culture.

Cement pool culture:
Using eight 20 square meters or so, 80 cm deep cement pool, the bottom of the pool paved with 20 to 30 cm thick (pool central 50 cm thick) of sea mud, injected by the precipitation of seawater, successive **** put on the mudflats dug catch 10 to 50 g (average about 40) size octopus larvae. The octopus larvae of 10-50g (average about 40g) in size are successively *** put in the dug catch on the beach. Feeding was done once a day in the afternoon, and the bait was live small crabs (2-6g, 300/kg on average) dug and caught from the mudflat.
The indoor light was between 800 and 1000 LX. The water was changed (100%) with precipitated seawater once a day during the culture process. As long as attention is paid to water changes during the hot season, octopus deaths generally do not occur. After about 6 months of breeding, the individual generally reaches 50 to 100g (average about 70g) before starting to catch. The method is simple and easy to implement, the technical requirements are not high, suitable for small-scale family farming.
Seine culture:
Seine in the mid- and high-tide areas of the mudflats in a dense net circle around 3000 square meters of breeding octopus, octopus hide in caves when the tide is dry dew. But the mesh of the seine net should be higher than the highest tide level to prevent escape. The method is simple, low cost, but the harvesting area is large and labor intensive.
