The University of Hong Kong, abbreviated as HKU (English: The University of Hong Kong, abbreviation: HKU), is a public research university in Hong Kong, with its headquarters located in Pokfulam on Hong Kong Island. HKU's Master of Accounting program offers an integrated master's degree program in accounting, finance, management and business analytics that combines theory with practice to provide students with an in-depth understanding of the role of accounting in economic decision-making. The program covers big data analytics in accounting, plus a comprehensive business analysis project based on real-life cases. Through the one-year full-time Master of Accountancy program, you can gain training in financial accounting, managerial accounting, taxation, auditing, law, financial management, corporate governance, big data analytics in accounting, strategic management and business leadership, and gain a comprehensive grasp of advanced knowledge and skills in professional accounting, finance and business management.
The Master of Accountancy program is accredited and exempted from examination in specified subjects by the following four major institutes: the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Certified Public Accountants Australia (CPA Australia) and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA). Upon completion of certain specific subjects in the Master's program, students can obtain examination exemptions for specified subjects in the qualifying examinations of the above mentioned institutes, which is convenient for students who wish to obtain professional qualifications in accounting.
To ensure that each student has the basic knowledge and skills needed to meet the requirements for professional accounting certification, a Boot Camp is offered at the beginning of the semester, covering three topics: Economics, Marketing Management for Accountants, and Statistical Analysis, with each topic comprising 15 hours of interactive lectures and a final Each topic consists of 15 hours of interactive lectures and a final quiz. Students pass the exams to begin the formal master's program.
Full-time 1-2 years. Students must successfully complete 12 six-credit courses (72 credits), including eight core courses (48 credits) and four elective courses (24 credits). Up to two elective courses may be chosen from other graduate programs offered by the College.
Exams will be given at the end of each course. Those who fail a core course exam must retake it. In the case of a failed elective exam, another elective may be chosen as an alternative course. Students may not fail more than two courses throughout their studies and must achieve a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
Application Requirements:1: An accredited baccalaureate degree or its equivalent.2: Statements from two references.3: A TOEFL score of 550 (paper-based) or 80 (internet-based), or an IELTS score of 6 (no less than 5.5 in any category). Good GMAT/GRE scores or a Bachelor's degree in Business or accounting related work experience is preferred. The tuition fee is HK$318,000* payable in two installments over a period of one year. Payment is normally due in October and January of each year.
