Yongkang, the ancient name of Lizhou, according to legend, the Three Kingdoms, Wu Chiwu eight years (A.D. 245), Sun Quan's mother went here to incense due to illness, and prayed for "eternal well-being". When Mrs. Wu recovered from her illness, Sun Quan was overjoyed and gave her the name "Yongkang" and established it as a separate county. In the Tang Dynasty, it was promoted to a state, and in 1992, approved by the State Council, the county was abolished and set up as a city.
At the end of 2008, Yongkang had a household population of 564,600 and a foreign population of more than 300,000, with a jurisdiction of 10 towns, 4 streets, and economic development zones, and a new district in the west of the city.
