What is the meaning of OT and DT?

Commonly used OT and DT mean the following:

OT (Operational Technology) industry generally refers to the software and hardware technology that needs to be used in the production and operation process of industrial enterprises. From a microscopic point of view, it can be understood as operation, such as operating a piece of equipment; from the middle point of view, it can be translated into operation, such as running a production line; from a macroscopic point of view, it can be translated into operation, such as operating a factory.

DT contains two aspects of technology: on the one hand, it refers to big data technology, through big data technology, enterprises to precipitate their own production, operation and other data for many years of integration, refinement, excavation, revitalization, to become the development of the enterprise productivity of the data assets can be value-added for the enterprise, and the enterprise, especially large-scale enterprises have attached great importance to the data assets. On the other hand refers to the total set of all the technology that can help the enterprise digital transformation.

Security is also a realistic physical requirement for the mutual integration of both OT and IT. In the past, OT security has relied almost entirely on the independence of OT facilities (so-called automation silos). Recently, many OT systems have been connected to IT systems (with companies aiming to expand their ability to monitor and coordinate OT systems), but this poses a significant challenge to OT security.

OT has different protection priorities and a different infrastructure than IT. Typical IT systems are designed around "Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability" (i.e., ensuring that information is secure and correct before allowing user access), whereas OT systems require "Availability, Integrity, Confidentiality" to operate effectively (i.e., allowing users to access information in a timely manner before caring about whether it is correct or not). (i.e., allowing users to access information in a timely manner before being concerned about correctness or confidentiality).

One of the greater difficulties is that OT systems tend to use a large variety of technically designed hardware and communication protocols. So for many organizations, it is more a question of how to support older systems and devices, as well as heterogeneous networks and standards from a wide range of vendors, in the process of upgrading the organization.
