The geological characteristics of Changsha are: complete exposure of strata, widespread granite bodies, complex geological structure, the strata of various geological historical periods are exposed in Changsha, and the oldest strata were formed about 1 billion years ago. About 600 million years ago, Changsha was a vast sea, but the sea was not deep.

Later, the seawater gradually withdrew from east to west, Liuyang, Changsha and Wangcheng most of the area rose out of the sea, becoming the northwestern edge of the ancient land of Jiangnan. About 140 million years ago, the Changsha area ended its sea flooding and rose to become land. Due to the influence of crustal movement and geological tectonics, it formed the Changsha (Shah) Pingjiang Basin, a long, mountainous depression basin.

Beginning of the Cenozoic Era, the whole Changping Basin rose into land. About 3.5 million years ago, the third ice age occurred on earth, and Liuyang retained the remains of glacial landforms.
