The Chinese team bagged seven titles at the 46th World Table Tennis Championships. This achievement brings the total number of titles won by the Chinese team in the history of the World Table Tennis Championships to a record 90. From 1959, when Yung Kuo-tuan won the first world title for China, to the end of the 46th World Table Tennis Championships, China*** won 90 titles, greatly surpassing the second-place Hungarian team. By the end of the 46th edition, China*** had won 13 men's team titles, 12 men's singles titles, 10 men's doubles titles, 14 women's team titles, 14 women's singles titles, 14 women's doubles titles (one with a North Korean player), and 13 mixed doubles titles.
On March 6, 2016, the Chinese women's table tennis team swept Japan 3 0 in the final of the 2016 World Table Tennis Team Championships to lift the Cowbell Cup for the 20th time in its history. In the men's team's battle later in the day, the Chinese men's team also defeated Japan 3 0 to lift the Sweethling Cup for the 8th time and 20th time in history.
