The predecessor of the school is Yishan Normal School of Guangxi Province, which was founded in 1951, and it has gone through the stages of operation of Yishan Prefecture Normal School of Guangxi Province, Liuzhou Normal School, and Yishan Normal School of Guangxi Hechi Region, etc. The State Council approved the establishment of Hechi Teacher's College in Yishan Normal School on the basis of the approval of the State Council in December 1978 and renamed it as Hechi Normal Higher and Specialized College in 1994 by the Ministry of Education. In December 1978, the State Council approved the establishment of Hechi Normal College on the basis of Yishan Normal School, and in 1994, the Ministry of Education approved the name change to "Hechi Normal College".

In May 1979, Yishan Normal School (later renamed Yizhou National Normal School) was reopened with the approval of the Hechi Local Committee of the People's Government of the People's Republic of China, and in April 2003, the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China approved the establishment of the Hechi College based on the Hechi Normal Higher and Specialized College, and in July 2003, the People's Government of the Autonomous Region approved the establishment of the Hechi College on the basis of the merger of the Hechi Normal Higher and Specialized College and the Yizhou National Normal School.

In December 2011, the school passed the qualified assessment of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education. 2013, the school was approved as the project construction unit of new master's degree-granting units in Guangxi. 2016 January, the school was approved to become a pilot university for the overall transformation and development at the level of the autonomous region. 2019 December, the school passed the undergraduate teaching audit and assessment.
