While the New Orleans Pelicans have struggled this season, injuries have not been an obstacle for the team. Of the team's two leaders, Brandon Ingram and Chauncey Williamson, only Chaun has missed two games. Both of them are on the starting roster tonight against the Los Angeles Lakers, who are missing their two most important players (Anthony Davis and LeBron James). Davis has been out of the game for over a month with calf and Achilles injuries, while James has been out since the beginning of the season with a severe ankle sprain. Lacking a key general, the Lakers had to send out two-way player Devontae Cacok as their starting center. Not surprisingly, the Pelicans controlled the box score and won 128-111.

The Pelicans' three frontcourt starters, Ingram, Cain and Steven Adams, all scored in double digits at halftime. "I thought we did a good job defensively in this game," Pelicans coach Stan Van Gundy said. "Part of it is that a lot of opponents don't play. Still, opponents felt good in this game, above their average. Opponents didn't let the lack of lesser players stagnate their offense, instead they were still pretty good. So I think we responded pretty well on the defensive end." Prior to the game, the team announced that Lanzo Ball was out of the game with a strained right hip flexor. He was considered one of the players who could be traded before the trade deadline. By the time the next game rolls around, the Pelicans could have a much different lineup. Nikhil Alexander-Walker once again got the start in Ball's place. He scored 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting.
