The American Mathematical Society (AMS) recently announced the list of newly elected academicians. Du Qiang, a graduate of China University of Science and Technology (USTC) and a professor from Columbia University, was elected as an academician of AMS.

Up to now, * * * nine people-Shu Qiwang, Yuan Yaxiang, Chen Xiuxiong, Li Congming, Wang Weiqiang, Wang Zhenghan, Li Yanyan, E Weinan and Du Qiang-have been elected as AMS researchers. These outstanding people congratulate our alumni. This is the first time that UTC graduates have been elected as AMS researchers.

He is currently the Chair of Applied Mathematics at the Fourier Foundation of Columbia University, the Director of Applied Mathematics Course at the School of Engineering of Columbia University, and a member of the Institute of Data Science. He is a member of the American Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Mathematical Society and the winner of the Feng Kang Prize for Scientific Computing.
