According to the latest data for the half year of 2021, the 16 prefectures and cities of Yunnan are ranked in order as Kunming, Qujing, Honghe Prefecture, Yuxi, Chuxiong Prefecture, Dali Prefecture, Zhaotong, Wenshan Prefecture, Baoshan, Pu'er, Lincang, Xishuangbanna, Dehong Prefecture, Lijiang, Diqing and Nujiang Prefecture.
In the first half of 2021, Qujing's GDP totaled 149.7 billion yuan, temporarily ranking second in Yunnan. During the same period, Honghe Prefecture's GDP totaled 129.9 billion yuan, with a trend to closely follow Qujing. In addition, there is another city in Yunnan whose GDP exceeded 100 billion yuan in the half-year. The data show that Yuxi's GDP totaled 113.9 billion yuan in the half-year, making it among the top four cities in Yunnan.
Compared with the pattern of other provinces in the central and western regions, Yunnan's strategy of strong provincial capitals is not obvious for the time being. Yunnan in the latest 14th Five-Year Plan has put forward, will give full play to the advantages of the provincial capital of Kunming all kinds of core resources, Kunming to build a regional trade center for South Asia, Southeast Asia, science and innovation center, financial center, as well as humanistic exchanges center.
