1 Xu Rong Anti-Japanese Fortress
500 years ago, there was a man of the hour in the history of the port city. He has no official position or title, but he is just a civilian, but he is brave, resourceful and fearless, and has made outstanding contributions to fighting against the enemy and defending his hometown. His name is Xu Rong, a native of Xieqiao, Yang She, during the Ming Jiajing period.
During the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, the Japanese pirates repeatedly committed crimes in Jiangnan, burning, killing and looting. Because Yang She is located at the end of the river, any Japanese invasion bears the brunt, so it is particularly vulnerable. In the spring of the thirty-second year of Jiajing (1553), Qian Ke, the magistrate of Jiangyin County, visited Jiang Fang, came to Yang She, and made a special trip to visit Xu Rong, inviting him to command the township soldiers in Yang She and assist the government in guarding his hometown. Xu Rong has long hated the evil deeds of the enemy. Although he is over 500 years old, he still promises that "it is every man's duty to defend his country", so he recruited thousands of rural soldiers, practiced day and night, and set up sentries at the main roads of the port, ready to meet the invading enemy at any time.
On May 18 of that year, the Japanese invaded Taicang, and Taicang came to Jiangyin for emergency treatment. Qian Ke ordered Yang She to help. Xu Rong sent uncles Xu Jian and Yi 'er Zhugui to lead 100 villagers to Taicang. In an encounter at sea, officers and men were afraid of the ferocity of the enemy. When Xu Yong and Zhu Gui saw this, they were furious. They bravely marched into the Japanese army, but they were outnumbered and sacrificed heroically.
The following year (1554), on April 28th, the Japanese army invaded Yang She in two ways. Xu Rong personally led the township soldiers to engage in fierce fighting with the enemy in Sanguantang. Because the enemy's strong crossbow is loose, and the township soldiers are poorly equipped and have no armor to stop, they have to fight and retreat. In the melee, Xu Rongxing had a righteous servant, Chen Zhou, to protect himself from accidents, but Zhou Chen died bravely. The next day, Xu Rong met the officers and men in Jiangyin City, regrouped, made careful arrangements, chose favorable terrain, and attacked the enemy separately. In this battle, the enemy was defeated and suffered heavy casualties, and the enemy fled in haste. This battle is a successful example in the history of this port city to resist foreign invasion and turn defeat into victory.
In the thirty-fourth year of Jiajing (1555), thousands of Japanese pirates made a comeback. Changshu county magistrate Wang Hong and senator Qian Pan were killed in the fierce battle between Rangtang and the enemy. When Xu Rong heard the news, he wrote a book and appealed to Qian Chun. Qian Chunyi stamped his foot: "Jiangyin is in danger!" In order to get revenge for an arrow, the enemy went straight to the oblique bridge to make trouble and plunder, burning down more than 90 houses in Xu Rongjia, leaving nothing left. Xu Rong was weak and had to retreat to Hedong, witnessing the burning tragedy and calling for help. Qian Ke, the county magistrate, could not bear to see the enemy rampant. Being outnumbered, he went out of town to fight the enemy. In the battle, Qian Qiuma was trapped, seriously injured and sacrificed heroically. When Xu Rong heard the news, she burst into tears and sighed. He knew it was difficult to save the situation, so he had to thank him for his leisure.
Yi Zhu baocheng
In the spring of the thirty-seventh year of Jiajing (1558), the governor of Jiangsu Province was still defending against the enemy, and planned to build five cities along the Yangtze River, including Yang She Fort, which was the largest project.
At that time, it was a year of chaos, the state treasury was exhausted and funds were scarce; Many people are in exile, without food, clothes and labor. Hua Du, the magistrate of Jiangyin County, was very embarrassed when he received the errand. So the merchants came to Yang She in person, and called Jin Hao, the magistrate of Changzhou (Jiangyin belonged to Changzhou at that time), and Jiangyin asked him to discuss the city on the spot. They unanimously agreed that Xu Rong was the duke, and invited Xu Rong to come out of the mountain again to undertake the important task of building the city. Xu Rong suffered from the Japanese riots for several years, knowing that the war to build a city had a bearing on the safety of one side of the people, and gladly took his life.
During this period, Xu Rong made specific plans, reviewed design drawings, raised funds everywhere, and recruited migrant workers. At that time, the project budget needed more than 30 thousand taels of silver, and the government managed to raise only 1.42 thousand taels, which was less than half. Xu Rong was burned and plundered by the Japanese many times, and his family was already poor, but he still generously donated his family wealth. He also personally led six sons to pick bricks and borrow soil on the construction site, setting an example for the villagers. The people of Yang She wholeheartedly support the idea of building a city. They have the money to pay, but they have no money to contribute. One of them, Grain Rain, a wealthy businessman, invested 22,000 yuan to build a half-city by himself, sometimes with the reputation of "half-city in the valley".
Thanks to the good management of Xu Rong and the hard work of migrant workers, this huge project was successfully completed within 100 days, creating a great miracle in the history of port city architecture. The newly-built Fort Yang She has a wall 20 feet high and a circumference of more than 600 feet. It has four gates, namely Donghai Gate, South Jiyang Gate, Xijiang Gate and North Yijing Gate. There is a moat outside the city, and a Haohe River inside the city, one for each thing. While building Fort City, Xu Rong was also responsible for supervising the construction of more than 300 participating offices, Ranger Command, Inspection Department offices and military camps. On the day of the completion of the Fort City, Jiangyin Jinshi and does not minister Xue Jia made a special trip to Yang She to inspect, and happily wrote "New Yang She City", including "the vastness of the past; The people wish for several years and comfort once. I don't know where it is in Jiraiya. " The joy is beyond words.
Since then, because the Yangtze River was well defended and the city was strong, the enemy never dared to harass Yang She and its areas along the Yangtze River easily, and the people were able to live a peaceful life.
2. The story of the silkworm queen
According to legend, a long time ago, there lived a family near Taihu Lake. The man went far away to do business, and his wife died. There is only one lonely daughter left at home, feeding a white horse. The girl is alone at home, very lonely, and she is looking forward to her father coming back soon. But after waiting for a long time, dad still didn't come back, and the girl was anxious and annoyed.
One day, the girl touched the ear of a white horse and jokingly said, "Horse, horse, if I can get my father home at once, I will marry you." The white horse nodded his head. He screamed at the sky, then broke free from the reins and ran away. A few days later, Baima came home hunched on the girl's father's back.
After that, the white horse cried happily at the sight of the girl, and ran to the girl for a long time and refused to leave. Although girls like white horses very much, how can people marry them at the thought? I began to worry again, seeing myself getting thinner every day. After the girl's father found out, he quietly questioned his daughter before he knew her promise. Father thought of his daughter, so he shot the white horse with his sword, skinned it and hung it in the yard while her daughter was not at home.
When the girl came home, she saw the horse skin hanging in the air. Knowing that something was wrong, she ran to touch the horse skin and cried bitterly. Suddenly, the horse skin slipped off the bamboo pole and wrapped the girl. There was a whirlwind blowing in the yard, and the horse skin wrapped around the girl turned around and rushed out of the door in a short time. By the time the girl's father rushed to find it, it was gone.
A few days later, the villagers found the missing girl in the Woods. Snow-white horse skin is still tightly attached to the body, and her head has turned into the shape of a horse's head, wriggling around the tree, and her mouth constantly spits out shiny filaments and wraps around her body.
Since then, there has been another creature in the world. Because it is always entangled with silk, people call it "silkworm". Because he died in a tree, the tree was named "Sang" (mourning). Later, people honored her as the "silkworm god" because her head was shaped like a horse, and she was also called "Matou Niang", which was called "Matou God" in ancient books. Later, because some people thought that the appearance of the horse head god was not good-looking, they shaped the image of a girl riding on horseback. This statue was placed in a temple by later generations and was called "A?vagho?a King Bodhisattva".
