Swiping credit cards has become a habit for many people. However, the Sichuan police recently uncovered a major telecommunications network fraud case. The criminal gang used "handling high-value credit cards" as bait. More than 6,000 people in more than 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions were defrauded, with the amount involved reaching more than 8 million yuan.
Reporting materials show that a victim in Baotou City, Inner Mongolia was defrauded of more than 80,000 yuan in two months. He received 40 or 50 POS machines with a cost of less than 100 yuan, but I haven’t been able to apply for any of the large credit cards I really wanted.
Police investigation found that in a high-end office building in the city center of Chengdu, Sichuan, more than 100 fraud suspects pretended to be China UnionPay staff and called customers across the country, falsely claiming that as long as they were in their company By using a POS machine, you can apply for a large credit card worth RMB 50,000 to RMB 300,000, and then swipe the card to cash out. Depending on the size of the credit card applied for, a handling fee or deposit ranging from several hundred to several thousand yuan will be charged. In fact, it is impossible to apply for a credit card at all.
Falsely claiming that the deposit collected is refundable and then blacklisting the person after receiving the money
How do scammers commit fraud? At each operator's station, there are both fraud instructions and new employee training exam papers. Police have released a recording of their scam, so be careful if you receive a call like this.
Fraudster: Hello, hello, this is the UnionPay POS machine business center. I’m sorry to bother you. I’m bringing you a POS machine that can swipe your card, get your loan in seconds, and is equipped with mobile Bluetooth. We will apply for a large-amount credit card for you for free. Are you interested in finding out about it now?
Victim: How much is the fee?
Fraudster: 0.65 is the credit card processing fee, and the fee for withdrawing the card is 0.55 to 25 yuan.
Victim: Which bank do you belong to?
Fraudster: We are not a bank, we belong to China UnionPay, a POS department of the UnionPay Business Center.
Victim: Please add me on WeChat.
The victim, Ms. Wu, needed working capital for business, so she added the scammer’s WeChat account. The other party said that he could apply for two credit cards worth 160,000 yuan for her, as long as he ordered a POS machine as a deposit, and the money would be returned to her after 3 months.
As required, Ms. Wu first paid a deposit of 1,180 yuan, sent her ID photo and personal information, and then paid a deposit of 2,360 yuan for a credit card. Three days later, the courier delivered a small POS machine to her, but the credit card was not sent.
When Ms. Wu asked, the other party sent a short video saying that the card was being made. At the same time, they also said that to apply for two credit cards, they needed to buy two POS machines, and asked Ms. Wu to transfer another 2,360 yuan. A few days later, she received another small POS machine, but the credit card still did not come. She repeatedly urged the other party on WeChat, but the other party later directly blocked her.
Falsely claiming to help the victim package application materials
Police said that anyone with certain financial knowledge knows that such a large credit card without a very high asset guarantee, the bank is absolutely It won't be done casually. But why were more than 6,000 people affected? It turns out that the targets of the scam are mostly people who need a large amount of money in the short term, such as those who have lost money in business or are eager to use money to pay back the money. Because these people who are in urgent need of cash often do not have the assets to apply for a large credit card.
The fraud gang also promised verbally that they could package personal information and give victims forged property certificates, vehicle certificates, deposit certificates, etc. In order to gain the trust of victims, fraudsters often post pictures of the China UnionPay Building, work certificates with UnionPay Business cards printed on them, and a large number of short videos of so-called credit cards issued in WeChat Moments.
Graduates fell into fraud for high salary
After the police mastered the basic criminal facts of the criminal gang, they took advantage of the time when the fraud gang was "working" to decisively attack and arrest them. At present, coercive measures have been taken against 64 suspects of this gang, and 49 of them have been approved for arrest.
The police found that among the suspects involved in fraud crimes, many were college graduates who had just graduated and entered the society. It turns out that the fraud gang not only packages itself as a technology company and operates in high-end office buildings in the central city, but also trains and tests new employees through fraud techniques, and motivates employees with so-called "performance" competitions, claiming that they have done a good job for a month. I can get ten thousand or twenty thousand. The high salary eventually attracted college graduates who were not experienced in the world.
The police remind newly graduated college students to keep their eyes open when applying for jobs, to have a basic sense of right and wrong, and not to fall into the quagmire of crime for the so-called high salary.
The formal channels for applying for a credit card are as follows:
1. The party concerned directly goes to the counter of the bank branch to apply;
2. Self-service application is made through the bank’s official website;
p>
3. Banks sometimes take the initiative to go to some enterprises and institutions to handle the matter, but the identity of the handling personnel must be bank staff.
The police remind that those who collect personal information from citizens and claim to be able to apply for credit cards through phone calls, text messages or the Internet, especially those with large-value credit cards, are illegal and non-compliant. Everyone must be vigilant to avoid being deceived!
It is impossible for pie in the sky to fall into your trap. Even if it does happen to you, it is still a trick of a liar. Don't think about getting something for nothing all day long, otherwise you will be deceived for petty gains, and there will be no use regretting it.
